Rock and Roll

Jazz and I both live on the island of Montreal if you hadn’t figured it out yet, but I bet that you didn’t know that Montreal is in a major earthquake zone. Yep, we are very seismically active, not as much as California but active none the less. There are three major faults in Québec. One the runs along the St. Lawrence River valley, one that runs north along the Outaouais River (that’s the Ottawa River for the rest of you) and the last that runs along the Saguenay River up to Chicoutimi.
Today just north of Ottawa, in Buckingham, there was a magnitude of 5.0 earthquake that lasted for 40 seconds. Here in Montréal we could easily feel the house shake, the windows and dishes rattle and there were even some books and papers that ended up on the floor. It was quite interesting. This is the second earthquake I’ve felt since I’ve been living in Montréal. The last one had the chandeliers swinging. Mind you, they are nothing compared to the ones in Haiti or Chili, thank diety, because the one we had was interesting enough as it was and I wouldn’t want to live through one that was much bigger.
If any of you are curious here is a link to the story on the CBC.

I have only experienced earthquakes twice, and both very small - more like a momentary bump. But both made me thankful I don't live where there are more serious earthquakes. (Of course, we've got some nasty tornadoes to deal with!)
